Hello Friends,
The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. -Ps 19:1
September 22 marked the beginning of my favorite time of year. No, it has nothing to do with beginning of charge conference season! The autumnal equinox has occurred and the fall season has begun. After a long hot summer of feeling trapped indoors I look forward to milder weather and the opportunity to be out in God’s creation.
As the earth travels around the sun the angle of the sun’s rays grows less direct heading into autumn. The heat dissipates (at least a little) and the light grows less harsh especially in the early morning and the late day. This constant movement in the heavens reminds me of God’s presence and love. God’s presence, love and grace are always present around us just like the sun, but there is constant movement too. God’s presence and love swirls around us and engulfs us in a living current of life giving and life affirming flow. The first flow of the cool breezes of autumn…aah.
Friends, I hope you take time to experience the refreshing winds of God’s love for you during this time of year. We all are busy and experience many challenges. Keep yourselves connected to God. Pay attention to your own spiritual, mental and physical health. As you look to the heavens, I think you will discover God is all around you in your relationships and in your ministry of word, sacrament, order and service.
Grace and peace,
Ricky
